KATHMANDU: Construction of a waste management center in Sunsari, to be built with the assistance of the Government of India, began on Sunday.

First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Narayan Singh, and Mayor of Duhabi Municipality, Bed Narayan Gachhadar, jointly laid the foundation stone for the project at Duhabi Municipality–4.

The waste management facility is being constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 164 million. The project, a part of India’s High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), is being implemented by Duhabi Municipality.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Gachhadar appreciated India’s development assistance, stating that the project will promote sustainable waste management practices in the municipality.

“India and Nepal share a close and multifaceted partnership. The implementation of such community development projects reflects India’s continued support in strengthening infrastructure in priority sectors and contributing to Nepal’s efforts toward development and prosperity,” the embassy said in a statement.
