KATHMANDU: The government has decided to shut down programs, such as bridge courses and entrance preparation classes, that different institutions have been offering ahead of school and college admission seasons.

Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Sashmit Pokharel made the decision.

According to the ministry, the decision will come into effect from the first day of the New Year 20283 BS, which begins on April 14.

“Various institutions have been running entrance preparation classes and bridge courses under different names, targeting admissions at different school levels and higher education. A ministerial-level decision was taken on March 17 to stop such programs completely from April 14. The ministry directs all concerned to implement this decision accordingly,” reads a statement issued by the ministry’s Spokesperson Shiva Kumar Sapkota.

The ministry has also requested the local administration of all 77 districts to monitor whether such programs are being conducted, and to initiate action in accordance with prevailing laws if any are found operating.
