Newly elected lawmakers take oath of office and secrecy

KATHMANDU: The newly elected members of the House of Representatives took the oath of office and secrecy on Thursday.

The senior-most member of the lower house, Arjun Narsingh KC, administered the oath of office and secrecy to 274 members amid a ceremony in a multi-purpose hall on the Parliament Complex premises.

KC had taken the oath from President Ram Chandra Paudel on Wednesday.

As per Articles 99 and 91(5) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, and Section 75 of the House of Representatives Election Act, 2017, all elected lawmakers must take the oath of office and secrecy.

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) emerged as the largest party in the lower house with 182 seats. Similarly, Nepali Congress (NC) came second with 38, while UML won 25, Nepali Communist Party (NCP) 17, Sharam Sanskriti Party (SSP) 7, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party(RPP) five seats.

Likewise, independent candidate Mahabir Pun was elected from Myagdi.
