KATHMANDU: Newly elected members of the National Assembly have taken the oath of office and secrecy.
National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal administered the oath to the newly elected members as per Article 86(2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015. Dahal also presented the federal parliament logo to the newly elected members and wished them a successful tenure.
Elections for 18 seats in the National Assembly were held on January 25. One will be nominated by the President on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
Roshani Meche, Somnath Portel, and Sunil Bahadur Thapa were elected from Koshi Province, while Rekha Kumari Jha, Dharmendra Paswan, Ranjit Karn and Mahantha Thakur were elected from Madhesh Province.
Similarly, Gita Devkota and Prem Prasad Dangal were elected from Bagmati Province, and Jagat Timilsina and Samjhana Devkota from Gandaki Province.
From Lumbini Province, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Chandra Bahadur KC, and Basudev Ghimire were elected.
Likewise, Meena Singh Rakhal and Lalit Jung Shahi were elected from Karnali Province, while Leela Kumari Bhandari and Khamm Bahadur Khati were elected from Sudurpaschim Province.
One-third of the members of the 59-member upper house complete their six-year term every two years. Elections are held every two years to fill the vacant posts.
