8.12 million PR votes counted; SSP, RPP close to securing 3% threshold

KATHMANDU: The proportional representation (PR) vote count for the House of Representatives election is nearing conclusion with 8,122,889 votes counted so far as of 9 am on Sunday.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is leading by a wide margin as per the latest counting results. The party has secured 3,916,502 of the votes counted so far.

Nepali Congress (NC) is second with 1,319,879 votes, followed by CPN-UML with 1,119,841 and Nepali Communist Party (NCP) with 567,106 votes.

The newly-formed Shram Sanskriti Party (SSP), spearheaded by former Dharan Mayor Harka Rai, is on course to cross the 3% threshold. It has received 284,583 votes so far.

Similarly, the pro-monarchy Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is sixth with 271,937 votes.

Under the country’s electoral system, 110 seats in the House of Representatives are allocated through proportional representation. Parties are required to secure at least 3% of the total valid PR votes to qualify for seats.

Based on the current vote count, six parties have crossed the 3% threshold: RSP, NC, UML, NCP, SSP, and RPP.
