NC’s Tek Bahadur Gurung elected from Manang

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Tek Bahadur Gurung has been reelected to the House of Representatives from Manang.

According to the final counting results, Gurung received 2,415 votes. His closest contender, Yashoda Gurung (Subedi) of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), garnered 454 votes.

Gurung is facing a trial in the Supreme Court after being convicted by the Special Court for abetting corruption in the leasing of land belonging to the Social Welfare Trust in Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu.

Despite winning the 2022 election, he was not able to take the oath of office initially, as a corruption case against him was sub judice. However, the Supreme Court, in 2024, issued an order lifting the suspension, ruling that a pending corruption case does not by itself make one disqualified to assume the position.
