KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has said that preliminary data suggest around 60% turnout in the House of Representatives elections held on Thursday.
Issuing a statement after the poll ended, the EC said the final numbers could change as it was still collecting data from the district offices.
“Necessary arrangements have been made to bring ballot boxes to the counting centers using helicopters. Ballot boxes in Himalayan districts like Taplejung, Rasuwa, Dolakha, Bajhang, and Rukum East are expected to be transported to the counting centers by Thursday itself,” the statement said. “Ballot boxes in Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Gorkha, Rukum West, Manang, Bajura, and Humla will be brought to the counting centers by Friday morning.”
Meanwhile, preparations are underway to begin the vote count in constituencies in urban areas from Thursday evening itself.
