NTB, NFDB join hands to promote film tourism

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the Nepal Film Development Board (FDB) have signed a four-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote tourism in Nepal through films.

NTB Chief Executive Officer Deepak Raj Joshi and NFDB Chairperson Dinesh DC signed the agreement amid a ceremony in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

One of the key provisions in the MoU is Nepal’s official participation in the Cannes Film Festival. The MoU states that Nepal will establish an official pavilion at the prestigious film festival to promote Nepali films and Nepal’s tourist destinations among the international audience.

Similarly, the two organizations have agreed to organize an international-level film festival in Pokhara to develop the city as a hub that combines film and tourism.

Likewise, they have agreed to launch an audio-visual storytelling campaign and produce promotional materials related to film tourism.

The agreement also covers promoting film-induced travel (set-jetting), conducting joint promotion at international exhibitions and markets, establishing Nepal as an attractive destination for audio-visual production, and carrying out infrastructure development and promotional campaigns.

NFDB Chairperson DC said the collaboration with the NTB marks the beginning of a long journey. He expressed confidence that Nepal’s film sector would be established on the global stage. “Once films are shot, locations automatically become promoted as tourist destinations,” he said. “We will move forward hand in hand to make Nepal a tourism-driven country.”

Similarly, NTB CEO Joshi said they are prioritizing film tourism to promote Nepal as the land of memorable stories.
