KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel returned home on Wednesday after concluding his four-day official visit to Japan.

Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, ministers, and heads of security agencies welcomed the President upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

President Paudel departed for Japan on Sunday night at the invitation of the Japanese government to participate in events organized on the occasion of 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

During the visit, President Paudel participated in a special reception hosted by the Japanese government in Tokyo to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Nepal–Japan diplomatic relations and addressed the ceremony. He also held a courtesy meeting with Japanese Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
President Paudel also held meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Japan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Iwao Horii.

Nepal and Japan established diplomatic relations on September 1, 1956. Nepal opened its embassy in Tokyo in 1965, while Japan set up its embassy in Kathmandu in 1967.
