NA personnel to be mobilized for election security from Wednesday

KATHMANDU: All four security agencies will be deployed for election security from Wednesday as per the Integrated Security Plan, 2025.

The government has already enforced the Integrated Security Plan, 2025, to strengthen law and order during the election period. With just a month remaining until the polls scheduled for March 5, security arrangements are being tightened and made more effective by deploying the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal, and the National Investigation Department.

The Nepal Police and the APF will also mobilize “election police” personnel recruited specifically for the election.

According to the plan, Nepal Police and election police personnel will be responsible for security inside polling stations, while the APF personnel will handle the second security cordon in coordination with the Nepali Army and Nepal Police. Similarly, the Nepali Army will remain in the outer security perimeter and shoulder key security responsibilities.

President Ram Chandra Paudel approved the deployment of the Nepali Army for election security on November 27 on the recommendation of the cabinet.

Nepal Army Spokesperson Brigadier Rajaram Basnet said army bases would be established as needed, and joint patrols would be conducted based on the situation of polling stations. “We are deploying around 80,000 personnel for election duties. The forces would be mobilized in accordance with the Integrated Security Plan, 2025, approved by the President,” he added.
