KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index closed marginally higher on Tuesday, extending its cautious upward movement amid mixed trading sentiment.

The benchmark Nepse index closed 5.08 points, or 0.18%, at 2,731.59 points after a volatile session which saw the index drop to an intra-day low of 2,702.83 points. While investors feared the index would fall below the psychological support level of 2,700 points, it recovered and ended in the green zone.

Unit prices of 141 scrips advanced during the session, while 112 declined and seven remained unchanged. Ankhu Khola Jalavidyut Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of Rs 835.75 million. Next were Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd and SY Panel Ltd with turnovers of Rs 543.60 million and Rs 498.80 million, respectively.

Total turnover fell to Rs 11.49 billion, with 23.61 million units traded through 121,992 transactions.

Five out of 13 sectoral indices ended the session in the red, while the remaining eight posted gains. The biggest loss came from the Investment sub-index, which shed a nominal 0.18%, while Finance logged the biggest gain of 1.33%.
