KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index tanked 42.58 points, or 1.53%, to close trading at 2,726.51 points on Sunday
The benchmark index opened on a relatively steady note but moved steadily downward as the day progressed. Despite a brief intraday recovery around mid-session, the market failed to hold gains and closed near the day’s low.
Market breadth remained weak. Unit prices of 224 scrips declined, while only 34 advanced and 2 remained unchanged. Total turnover fell to Rs 14.16 billion, with 30.26 million shares traded through 142,476 transactions.
Radhi Bidyut Company topped the turnover chart with Rs 578.5 million worth of shares traded. SYPNL and Ankhu Khola Jalvidyut Company Ltd were next, with transactions totaling Rs 576.8 million and Rs 514.3 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, one ended unchanged, while the remaining 12 logged losses. The biggest loss came from the Finance sub-index, which was down 2.42%. Next were Others and Life Insurance sub-indices, closed 1.97% and 1.85% lower, respectively.
