KATHMANDU: The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal has unveiled a 27-point election manifesto with constitutional amendment at the top of its priorities.
The party has said that amending or rewriting the constitution is a must to change the system of governance, the electoral system, and the justice system to address problems plaguing the nation.
JSP Nepal, which recently merged with Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) Nepal, has pledged to restructure the state so that it reflects national ethnic identity and to implement a parliamentary system with proportional and inclusive representation, along with a directly elected executive president.
Similarly, the party has said that it will address the legitimate demands and issues raised during the Gen Z movement of early September last year. Committing to the creation of a corruption-free society, the party has vowed to ensure corruption control, accountability, good governance, and transparency. The manifesto states that the government will investigate all forms of past corruption and scandals and take legal action against those found guilty.
According to the manifesto, scholarships, free education, technical training, and employment opportunities will be provided for the extremely poor, disadvantaged groups, endangered communities, marginalised Dalits, and women.
Accusing past governments of making political appointments based on power-sharing, JSP Nepal has said that it will implement a system of proportional and inclusive appointments based on merit, capability, experience, and contribution.
The party has also pledged to integrate police and civil servants at the provincial level and to establish provincial police forces, provincial civil services, and provincial laws.
Prioritising agriculture, JSP Nepal says it will implement a scientific land-use policy and pursue commercialisation, modernisation, and industrialisation of agriculture through an agricultural revolution. The party says it will roll out concrete policies, programmes, and plans to improve the living standards of poor people dependent on agriculture and steer the country towards development, prosperity, and progress.
