KATHMANDU: The Sher Bahadur Deuba faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) has dismissed reports that it was planning to convene a national gathering after the National Assembly election.
Min Bahadur Bishwakarma, former chief of NC’s Publicity Department, said reports suggesting that the Deuba faction was preparing to convene a national gathering of leaders after the National Assembly polls were entirely fabricated. In a social media post on Sunday, he said the party’s full focus is currently on securing a majority under the party’s election symbol, the tree.
“There are no internal differences within the party at present, and everyone is focused on the elections and on winning a majority under the tree symbol,” Bishwakarma wrote. “Reports that the Deuba faction will convene a national gathering after the National Assembly election are nothing but baseless rumours.”
Bishwakarma also said the party has declared President Gagan Kumar Thapa as the future prime minister and that this decision must be accepted by all.
He also said that despite internal disputes and cases pending before the court, the party reached a consensus in candidate selection to ensure the elections are not affected.
