Alliance candidates win in Madhesh, Bagmati, Sudurpashchim

KATHMANDU: Candidates from the Nepali Congress–CPN-UML–JSP Nepal alliance have been elected to the National Assembly from Madhesh Province.

CPN-UML’s Rekha Jha was elected from the Women’s cluster. She received 7,222 votes. Her closest competitor, Shami Kumari Agrawal of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), got only 1,944 votes.

Similarly, Ranjit Karn from the Nepali Congress was elected from the minority cluster with 8,093 votes. His nearest competition, Ram Nandan Prasad of the NCP, received 1,361 votes.

In the Dalit cluster, NC’s Dharmendra Paswan defeated Shambhu Paswan of the NCP. Dharmendra received 7,904 votes, while Shambu mustered only 1,376. Likewise, in the Others cluster, JSP Nepal Patron Mahanta Thakur defeated Laxman Paudel of the NCP. Thakur secured 7,725 votes, while Paudel received 1,805.

According to the Madhesh Province Election Office, 99 provincial assembly members and 242 local unit representatives cast their votes.

Devkota, Dangal win in Bagmati

Gita Devkota of Nepali Congress and Dr Prem Prasad Dangal of CPN-UML have been elected to the upper house from Bagmati Province.

Devota was elected from the Women’s cluster, while Dr Dangal won from the Others cluster.

Khati, Bhandari elected from Sudurpaschim

Khamma Bahadur Khati from NC and Lila Kumari Bhandari of UMl have been elected from Karnali.

Khati, who received 3,969 votes, defeated Tikaram Jaisi of NCP in the Others cluster. Similarly, Bhandari, who secured 3,984 votes, defeated Roji Basnet of NCP in the Women’s cluster.
