KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has canceled the candidacy of Resham Lal Chaudhary of Nagarik Unmukti Party in Kailali-1 seat of the House of Representatives.
According to Kul Bahadur GC, the assistant spokesperson for the EC, the candidacy was canceled after reviewing complaints lodged against him at the Kaiali-1 Election Office.
Chaudhary, who had been serving a life sentence, was pardoned by the President on the recommendation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on May 28, 2023.
“Since a presidential pardon does not annul the court’s verdict by itself, the decision to cancel the candidacy has been made,” the Kailali-1 Election Office said.
