HoR elections: Candidates filing nominations today

KATHMANDU: Candidates are filing nominations for the House of Representatives elections in 165 constituencies across the country on Tuesday.

The Election Commission (EC) has stated that all necessary preparations for registration of nominations have been completed. According to the EC, election offices have been established in all 165 constituencies to facilitate candidate registration.

Candidates are required to submit their nomination papers with a copy of their citizenship certificate or a voter ID card. Likewise, proof that the candidate’s name is included in the final voter list of a municipality or rural municipality is also required.

If a candidate is currently holding a salaried position in the Government of Nepal, a provincial government, or a local level, or in any institution owned or controlled by, or receiving grants from, the federal, provincial, or local government, a receipt or proof of resignation from such a position must be submitted.

Likewise, if a candidate is submitting nomination on behalf of a political party, an official nomination letter issued by an authorized office-bearer of the party’s central executive committee or an equivalent body, empowered to issue such nominations, must also be submitted.

Candidates must also submit a receipt or voucher showing that a security deposit of Rs 10,000 has been deposited at the concerned election office. A 50 percent reduction in the deposit amount is provided for women, Dalit, minority community, or economically disadvantaged candidates.

Likewise, candidates are required to submit, in sealed form, a detailed statement of their movable and immovable property, bank and financial institution accounts, securities such as shares and debentures, and full details of any loans given or taken.
