KATHMANDU: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel has submitted his resignation to contest the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.

With this, Kharel has become the third minister from Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s party-less interim cabinet who stepped down to contest the elections. He is expected to contest the election from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) from the Lalitpur-2 constituency.

Earlier, Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Kulman Ghising submitted his resignation to contest the elections. Ghising initially signed an agreement to merge his party with the Rastriya Swatantra Party. However, he withdrew from the agreement after just 12 days and is spearheading his political campaign through his own party.

Likewise, Minister for Youth and Sports Bablu Gupta stepped down to contest the election from the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
