Five dead as bus rams into medical shop in Dharan

ITAHARI: Five people were killed, and 17 others were injured when a passenger bus coming from Dhankuta to Dharan met with an accident at Zero Point in Dharan on Sunday afternoon.

According to DSP Chandra Khadka, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Sunsari, the accident occurred after the bus suffered brake failure and rammed into a medical shop.

Khadka said that three men and two women—believed to be a mother and a child—were killed in the accident.

The identities of the deceased have yet to be established. The injured have been reushed to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for treatment.

“Initial information suggests that although the bus is a school bus, there were no students on it,” Khadka said. “A scooter was also involved in the accident. The accident appears to have occurred while the bus was trying to avoid hitting it.”

It is not clear whether the deceased were passengers on the bus or people inside the house.
