Rahbar Ansari quits NCP

KATTHMANDU: Madhesh Province Assembly member Rahbar Ansari has quit the Nepali Communist Party (NCP).

He submitted a written resignation to NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday. Interestingly, Ansari had addressed Dahal as the Former Chairperson of CPN (Maoist Center).

CPN (Maoist Center) merged with several left parties, including CPN (Unified Socialist), to form NCP a couple of months ago.

Ansari was elected from the Parsa 1(A) seat of the Madhesh Province Assembly in the 2022 general elections.

Ansari and another Maoist Center lawmaker, Mala Karn, had earlier disobeyed the party whip by refusing to support former Madhesh Chief Minister Jitendra Sonal’s motion for a vote of confidence. As a result, Sonal failed the floor test.

However, the Maoist Center did not take disciplinary action against the two.

“Since the party has abandoned courage, integrity and risk-taking, I can no longer be a part of such a contradiction. With this realization, I take leave from party membership, hailing the socialist revolution,” he wrote in the resignation letter.
