KATHMANDU: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers, to be held in Kathmandu from January 14 to February 1.
Ishwari Bista, Rubi Poddar, and Sabnam Rai, who were part of the squad that played in the Asia qualifiers, have been dropped, while Sita Rana Magar, Kajal Shrestha, and Suman Bista have been added to the team.
The Global Qualifiers feature 10 teams divided into two groups of five each. Nepal has been placed in Group B alongside strong opponents, the Netherlands, Zimbabwe, Thailand, and Scotland. Group A comprises Bangladesh, Ireland, Namibia, Papua New Guinea (PNG), and the United States.
The top four teams after the group stage and the Super Six stage will qualify for the World Cup.
Nepal will begin their campaign against Thailand on January 18, followed by matches against the Netherlands on January 22, Zimbabwe on January 24, and Scotland on January 26. Ahead of the tournament, Nepal will also play practice matches against Ireland and the United States as part of their preparations.
According to CAN, matches will be held at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur and two grounds in Mulpani.
