KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index ended the first trading session of 2026 with a 12.83-point loss on Thursday, the last trading day of the week.
The index moved into the red right after trading began and failed to recover for most of the session. Although a small gain toward the close helped pare some losses, the market closed 0.48% lower at 2,620.92 points.
Daily turnover fell to Rs 4.71 billion, with 10.15 million units traded through 64,407 transactions. The unit prices of 189 scrips declined during the session, while 63 advanced and eight remained unchanged.
SY Panel logged the highest turnover of the session, with Rs 234.11 million worth of shares traded. Shivam Cement and Butwal Power Company Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 138.06 million and Rs 122.38 million, respectively.
Except for the Others sub-index, which rose by a marginal 0.01%, all trading groups ended the session in the red. Trading suffered the biggest loss of 1.09%. The Life Insurance and Finance sub-indices followed with losses of 0.78% and 0.74%, respectively.
