KATHMANDU: With Kulman Ghising joining the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), a merger between prominent forces considered alternative powers in the country has been finalized.
Following the understanding reached over the past two days, Rabi Lamichhane, Balen Shah, and Kulman Ghising have ultimately come together on one platform.
According to the fourth point of the agreement signed on Monday, the RSP will now have three Vice Chairpersons – DP Aryal, Dr Swarnim Wagle, and Ghising. While the deal does not explicitly mention a hierarchy of seniority, Ghising’s name is listed first, followed by DP Aryal and Swarnim Wagle in the third position. This suggests that Ghising will be the senior-most vice chairperson in the party.
Previously, when there were only two vice chairpersons in the party, Aryal was the senior-most vice chairperson.
“Rabi Lamichhane will remain the Central Chairperson of the party while Ghising, Aryal, and Wagle will serve as Vice Chairpersons,” states Point 4 of the agreement.
The agreement, reached late Monday night, was signed by President Rabi Lamichhane on behalf of the RSP and Anup Kumar Upadhyay, Chairperson of the Ujyaalo Nepal Party, on behalf of Ghising. Balen signed the agreement as a witness.
While RSP has agreed to project Balen as its prime ministerial candidate, nothing has been said about his position in the party organization. However, leaders said after the signing ceremony with Balen on Sunday morning that Balen will be second in party command after Chairperson Lamichhane.
