Pokhara hosting NSJF Pulsar Sports Awards on Jan 7

KATHMANDU: The 22nd edition of the NSJF Pulsar Sports Awards, which had been postponed due to the September 8 and 9 Gen Z movement, will be held in Pokhara on January 7.

According to Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) President Niranjan Adhikari, the digital voting process for the People’s Choice Award, which was postponed after the protests, has been reopened from Sunday.

The nominees in this category include Wushu athlete Bijay Sinjali, cricketer Pooja Mahato, volleyball player Himal Sunari, footballer Rekha Paudel, and table tennis player Ivana Thapa.

The Sports Awards ceremony will be held at the Pokhara Convention Centre. According to the organizers, the NSJF Sports Summit would be held in Pokhara a day before the awards.

Adhikari said the Summit will focus on Pokhara’s tourism and sports economy.

Awards will be presented in 10 categories: Male Player of the Year, Female Player of the Year, Youth Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, People’s Choice Award, Para-Athlete Honour, Special Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Asian Sports Journalist Award, and Team of the Year.

Winners in five categories—Male Player of the Year, Female Player of the Year, People’s Choice Award, Coach of the Year, and Youth Player of the Year—will get a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle each. Winners of the remaining categories will get a cash prize of Rs 100,000 each.
