KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a three-day losing run and closed 10.53 points lower at 2,622.88 points on Monday.
The index moved into the negative zone right after trading began on Monday morning. Although the benchmark made recovery efforts, it eventually closed the session 0.4% lower.
Market activity also reflected the overall sentiment, as total turnover fell to Rs 4.77 billion. The total number of traded shares and the number of transactions also declined to 10.03 million and 69,548, respectively.
Unit prices of 165 scrips declined during the session, while 85 advanced and nine remained unchanged. SY Panel topped the turnover chart with Rs 230.24 million worth of shares traded. Manjushree Finance Ltd and Shivam Cements followed with turnovers of Rs 179.83 million and Rs 136.36 million, respectively.
Regarding sectoral indices, all trading groups, except for the Development Bank and the Mutual Fund, posted losses. The largest loss came from the Life Insurance sub-index, which declined by 0.85%. On the other hand, the Development Bank sub-index logged the highest gain of 0.67%.
