KATHMANDU: Madhesh Province Assembly members are voting to elect a new Speaker on Sunday.
Two candidates have filed their nominations for the position – Ramashish Yadav from the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, representing the seven-party ruling coalition and Triloki Prasad from the CPN-UML.
Since the ruling coalition commands a clear majority in the provincial assembly, Yadav is certain to be elected.
According to the schedule, a proposal to elect the Speaker will be tabled during the provincial assembly meeting set to convene at 1 pm on Sunday.
The position has been lying vacant since the provincial assembly passed a motion to remove then-Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal for conduct unbecoming of his office on November 19.
