KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped its three-day winning streak, slipping 10.66 points to close at 2,615.03 on Thursday—the last trading day of the week.
The benchmark index entered negative territory immediately after trading began. Although it made recovery attempts during the session, selling pressure after the three straight days of gains pushed the index to an intraday low of 2,610.20 points. It later pared some losses but still ended the day 0.4 percent lower.
Despite the decline in the index, market activity improved. Total turnover rose to Rs 4.57 billion, with 11.29 million units changing hands through 64,029 transactions. Of the traded scrips, unit prices of 194 companies declined, while 63 advanced, and two remained unchanged.
Barahi Hydropower Ltd recorded the highest turnover of the session, with shares worth Rs 247.23 million traded. Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd and Butwal Power Company Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 183.53 million and Rs 161.06 million, respectively.
Sector-wise, all trading groups ended in the red except three sub-indices that posted marginal gains. The finance sub-index led the losses, falling 1.55 percent. It was followed by the others and life insurance sub-indices, which declined by 1.19 percent and 0.67 percent, respectively.
