BUTWAL: A pair of elephants gifted by Nepal to the State of Qatar has been formally dispatched from Bhairahawa

The elephants, brought to Butwal from Chitwan by truck on Wednesday, departed for Doha from Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa at 5:30 pm aboard a Qatar Airways cargo aircraft.

A Boeing 777F freighter departed from the airport with a cargo containing two elephants – Khagendra Prasad and Rudrakali – on Wednesday evening, according to Binod Raut, the spokesperson for the Gautam Buddha International Airport.

Earlier, the tuskers were formally handed over to a senior official of the Embassy of Qatar in Nepal by Dr Rajendra Prasad Mishra, Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development; Ramkaji Khadka, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Chiran Jivi Pokharel, Director at the National Trust for Nature Conservation.
