Former President Bhandari inspects arson-hit Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Sunday inspected the structures inside Singha Durbar that were damaged due to arson and vandalism during the Gen Z protests.

Bhandari visited the main building of Singha Durbar, including the Office of the Prime Minister and the Gallery Hall. Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, briefed the former President on the extent of the damage and the preparations underway for reconstruction.

After the inspection, former President Bhandari expressed sorrow over the destruction of important parts of Singha Durbar and said that she remains confident that reconstruction will begin soon. Bhandari added that the tragic events of September 9 and 9 should not be allowed to recur in the future.

The arson during the Gen Z protests completely destroyed the western wing of Singha Durbar and caused damage to several other ministries as well.
