KATHMANDU: Karnali Yaks and Janakpur Bolts are meeting in their final group-stage match of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) at the TU International Cricket Grounds in Kathmandu on Sunday.
With Sudurpashchim Royals, Biratnagar Kings, Kathmandu Gorkhas and Lumbini Lions already through to the playoffs, the fixture has effectively become a dead rubber.
Both teams have won one match and lost five in the NPL this year. Janakpur Bolts, which won the NPL last year, will be aiming to avoid finishing at the bottom of the table with a win on Sunday. Karnali will be looking to end the season on a positive note by winning the fixture.
Janakpur’s only victory in the NPL this year, a six-wicket win, came against Chitwan. The win came after three straight losses. Karnali, on the other hand, lost their first match, won the second, and then fell to four consecutive defeats.
In the playoffs, Sudurpashchim Royals and Biratnagar Kings will contest Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, with the winner advancing directly to the final. The losing side will face the winner of the Eliminator between Kathmandu Gorkhas and Lumbini Lions in Qualifier 2 on Thursday.
The final is scheduled for Saturday.
