Nepse ends flat; turnover falls to Rs 4.48 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index ended on Tuesday, losing 0.53 points after a highly volatile trading session.

The benchmark index opened on a positive note and climbed to two intraday highs. However, it failed to sustain momentum and slipped back on both occasions, eventually ending the day session marginally in the red.

A total of 125 scrips gained in value, while 119 declined and 13 remained unchanged.

Union Hydropower Ltd recorded the highest turnover of the day, with shares worth Rs 318.13 million traded. Mountain Energy Ltd and Ngadi Group Power Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 229.43 million and Rs 161.63 million, respectively.

Overall market turnover dipped further to Rs 4.48 billion, with 10.81 million units of shares changing hands through 56,009 transactions.

Among sectoral indicators, eight sub-indices closed higher, while the remaining five ended lower. The Hydropower sub-index led the gainers with a rise of 0.7 percent, whereas the Hotels & Tourism sub-index posted the steepest decline of 0.62 percent.
