KATHMANDU: The number of political parties seeking to participate in the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5 has risen to 108.
According to Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the spokesperson for the Election Commission (EC), the tally reached 108 as of Thursday evening.
The deadline for party registration for election purposes has been extended until Sunday.
The EC has said that a few more parties are likely to register within this period. At present, 16 parties are in the process of registration.
Only 84 parties had participated in the 2022 general election.
Meanwhile, the total number of parties registered with the EC has reached 139. On Thursday, Madhav Prasad Khatri’s ‘Nagarik Bachau Dal Nepal’ and Prakash Khadka’s ‘Nepal Janasewa Party’ were registered with the EC.
