JANAKPURDHAM: The traditional Sita–Ram Swayambar ceremony was held on Tuesday at the Rangabhoomi ground in Janakpur as part of the Bibaha Panchami festival.
The ritual commemorates the Treta-era marriage of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, marked by Ram breaking the divine bow during King Janak’s Dhanush Yagya.
The ceremonial dola (palanquin) carrying the idols of Sita and Ram left the Janaki Temple, while another dola for Ram departed from the Ram Temple. After circling the city, both processions converged at Rangabhoomi. Following the symbolic union of the dolas, Ram’s dola made three circumambulations before continuing the city procession.
The event concluded with both dolas returning to their respective temples.
The symbolic wedding rituals are held tonight.
