KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) opened the week on a strong note, gaining 39.92 points to close at 2,600.22 points on Sunday.
This is the first time the benchmark has closed above the psychological support level of 2,600 points since November 5, when the index closed at 2,607.42 points.
The prices of 237 scrips advanced during the session, while 18 declined and two remained unchanged. Turnover also surged to Rs 6.28 billion, the highest since November 2, when total transactions amounted to Rs 7.29 billion.
NRN Infrastructure & Development led the session in turnover chart with Rs 656.09 million worth of shares traded. Peoples Hydropower Company Ltd and Radhi Bidyut Company followed with turnovers of Rs 347.80 million and Rs 219.28 million, respectively.
All sectoral indices except the Mutual Fund sub-index, which slipped marginally by 0.23%, closed higher on Sunday. The Life Insurance sub-index posted the strongest performance with a 2.55%. Investment and Non-Life Insurance sub-indices were next with gains of 2.03% and 1.99%, respectively.
