KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the party must hold its general convention before the upcoming elections.
Speaking to journalists after the Central Working Committee meeting on Saturday, Thapa said since the party needs to enter the elections with new policies and leadership, the general convention must be conducted before the elections.
He said a special general convention has become the only option, as there is not enough time to hold the regular general convention before the elections.
General Secretary Thapa insisted that it is not acceptable to say the party will neither hold the regular convention by mid-January, nor
organize a special general convention. He added that the meeting scheduled for November 27 will have no option other than deciding between holding the regular convention within mid-January or conducting the special general convention by the end of mid-December.
He also added that efforts are underway to reach a consensus and take a unified decision on the issue of the general convention.
