KATHMANDU: The Embassy of India in Kathmandu, in partnership with the AI Association of Nepal, organized an event titled “AI for Inclusive Growth: Building Nepal’s AI Ready Future” in Kathmandu on Friday.
The event served as an official pre-summit event for the AI Impact Summit scheduled to be held in New Delhi on February 19-20.
According to a statement issued by the embassy, the event highlighted recent developments in artificial intelligence and provided an overview of the upcoming summit.
More than 400 participants representing startups, government agencies, industry chambers, the Robotics Association of Nepal, NAS-IT, Fintech Alliance, AI Association of Nepal, academia, think tanks and the media attended the event.
Addressing the event, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel shed light on Nepal’s ongoing AI initiatives and stressed the potential for bilateral cooperation in the sector.
Speaking at the plenary session, Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, said the AI Impact Summit aims to shift global conversations toward the real-world impact of AI. He also encouraged Nepali youth to participate in the summit’s global challenges, including AI for All, AI for Her, and YUVAi.
Similarly, Amitabh Nag, CEO of the Digital India Bhashini Division, delivered the keynote presentation, demonstrating Bhashini’s role in transforming public service delivery in India.
A panel discussion on “Leveraging AI for Nepal’s Growth”, moderated by Dr Suresh Pokharel, Vice President of the AI Association of Nepal, explored policy development, youth engagement, and digital public infrastructure. The event concluded with a workshop on AI tools and architecture led by Ram Sharma Bhattarai and Darshan Parajuli of the AI Association of Nepal. The session also featured industrial case studies on the use of Bhashini AI in India.
