JANAKPURDHAM: The seven-party alliance in Madhesh Province has decided to take action against staff members who failed to cooperate on the registration of a motion to remove outgoing Speaker Ram Chandra Mandel for conduct unbecoming of his office.
A meeting of the alliance held on Thursday under the leadership of Deputy Speaker Babitakumari Raut Ishar made the decision.
Speaking after the meeting, Ishar said government employees, who did not cooperate from the time the proposal was registered to the time it was passed, would face action. “A decision has been made to take action against the employees of the Provincial Assembly Secretariat for non-cooperation,” she said. “Since the Speaker has already been relieved of his position, the staff of his private secretariat should resign on moral grounds.”
According to the Deputy Speaker, the Secretary, under-secretaries, and several officers of the Secretariat fall under the scope of action. “They will first be asked to furnish clarification,” she said. “If their response is not satisfactory, further action will be taken in accordance with the law based on the consensus of the parties.”
The meeting also decided to start the process of choosing a new Speaker after the Supreme Court issues a verdict on the petition filed against the appointment of the Chief Minister, according to Krishna Prasad Yadav, leader of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party in Madhesh Province.
The Supreme Court has scheduled the final hearing on the petition for November 27.
