Govt honors highest taxpayers across various sectors

KATHMANDU: The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) organized an event in Kathmandu on Monday to honor the highest taxpayers across various categories.

Raj Bahadur Shah has emerged as the country’s highest individual income taxpayer for the fiscal year 2024/25, according to the Inland Revenue Department (IRD). Shah was honoured at a ceremony held in Kathmandu on Monday to mark National Tax Day.

Minister for Finance Rameshore Prasad Khanal felicitated the highest taxpayers.

Among government institutions, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority paid the highest amount of tax. In the sole proprietorship category, Third Eye International was recognised as the top taxpayer.

Dabur Nepal Pvt Ltd led in the export of goods, while Verisk Nepal Pvt Ltd stood out in the export of information-technology-related services. In the agriculture sector, Poshan Breeder Farm Pvt Ltd paid the highest taxes.

Similarly, Nepal Investment Mega Bank secured the top position among banks and financial institutions, whereas Nobel Medical College and Teaching Hospital was recognised as the leading taxpayers among health and educational institutions.

In the tourism sector, Soaltee Hotel Ltd was honoured for contributing the most taxes. Bhatbhateni Super Store topped the category for income tax payments from goods trading businesses.

CDS and Clearing Ltd was recognized among companies with annual transactions between Rs 500-100 billion.

In the energy sector, Bhotekoshi Power Company Ltd was named the highest taxpayer, while IME Ltd was the highest taxpayer in the remittance-related category. Nepal Telecom was recognised for consistently paying the highest value-added tax on time from fiscal year 2019/20 to 2024/25.

Unilever Nepal Ltd was honored as the highest taxpayer among special industries.

Additionally, the Baglung Tax Office was awarded as the best-performing tax office of the year.

The IRD said the recognition aims to encourage transparency, compliance, and a stronger tax culture across the country.
