KATHMANDU: The stock market opened the week on a muted note as the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index closed by 5.15 points lower at 2,450.57 on Sunday.
The decline follows a marginal gain of 1.13 points in the previous session on Thursday.
Market breadth remained weak, with prices of 168 scrips declining, 74 advancing, and 14 remaining unchanged.
SBL Debenture 89 led the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 289.07 million. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd and Mountain Energy Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 213.52 million and Rs 208.45 million, respectively.
Overall turnover improved slightly to Rs 3.89 billion, with 7.95 million units traded across 47,176 transactions. Daily turnover has remained below Rs 4 billion since November 10, reflecting investors’ reluctance to take fresh positions amid market uncertainty.
Only three sub-indices managed to post nominal gains, while 10 ended in negative territory. The Finance sub-index recorded the sharpest fall at 0.87%, while Hydropower and Non-life Insurance each declined by 0.49%.
