CAN eyeing Rs 420 million revenue from second season of NPL

KATHMANDU: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced on Saturday that it expects to generate Rs 420 million in revenue from the second season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), which kicks off in Kathmandu on Monday.

At a press briefing, CAN officials shared the projected financial breakdown for the tournament.

The league features eight teams that will play a total of 32 matches, including the playoffs and the final.  All the matches will be played at the TU International Cricket Grounds, Kirtipur.

CAN Secretary Paras Khadka said sponsorships will form the largest share of income, contributing Rs 150 million. Franchise fees from the eight teams are projected to bring in an additional Rs 90 million, he added.

CAN expects revenue of Rs 80-Rs 120 million from ticket sales. Likewise, OTT streaming rights will bring in another Rs 53 million for CAN, while domestic television broadcast rights will add another Rs 10 million.

NPL features eight teams: Biratnagar Kings, Janakpur Bolts, Kathmandu Gorkhas, Pokhara Avengers, Chitwan Rhinos, Lumbini Lions, Karnali Yaks and Sudurpashchim Royals.
