KATHMANDU: Just hours after an impeachment motion was filed against him, Madhesh Province Assembly Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal has dismissed five provincial assembly members for remaining absent in ten consecutive meetings.
Those dismissed include Urmila Devi Singh of the Nagarik Unmukti Party and Manish Kumar Suman, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Singhasan Sah Kalwar, and Sarda Sankar Prasad Kalwar of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal.
According to a notice issued by the Speaker’s Office on Wednesday, Mandal relieved the lawmakers of their positions under Article 180(1)(G) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, which states that a provincial assembly member’s seat shall be deemed vacant if they remain absent from ten consecutive meetings without notifying the assembly.
Homanth Pahadi, information officer of the Madhesh Province Assembly Secretariat, confirmed that a notice has been published on the dismissal of the five assembly members at the direction of the Speaker.
