KATHMANDU: Following the GenZ uprising, the country’s political landscape has undergone significant change, with a surge in alternative thinking and an intensified effort to create new political alignments.
New parties are being formed, while some have taken the path of unification to strenthen their foothold. Preliminary discussions were held on Thursday, at the initiative of former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, among various alternative parties, groups, and activists to form a new political force.
Participating in the meeting were Janardan Sharma and Sudan Kirati from the dissolved CPN (Maoist Center), Dol Prasad Aryal (DP), acting president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Samiksha Baskota, chairperson of the Bibeksheel Sajha Party, Durga Sob, coordinator of the Nepal Samajbadi Party (Naya Shakti), and Manushi Yami Bhattarai, of the same party, among others.
After the meeting, Sob said the discussion concluded that all forces with alternative ideas and visions must come together against the old parties that have become corrupt and failed to meet the people’s expectations.”
The leaders who took part in the talks expressed a positive outlook on building a common alternative political force through continued dialogue and cooperation, with good governance, development, and prosperity as their main agenda.
Sob said that Sharma presented a different perspective during the discussion. “He expressed that everyone should internalize the spirit of the GenZ movement and move forward together to build a new alternative political force,” she added.
According to Sob, RSP’s Aryal said summoning hids party president to Singha Durbar for an eight-hour interrogation is no different from the KP Oli government’s approach. “Those who ordered the shooting to suppress the GenZ movement are freely roaming around, yet our president is being interrogated for hours at Singha Durbar?” Sob quoted Aryal as saying.
