KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped its two-day losing run, posting a gain of 12.17 points to close at 2,607.42 points on Wednesday.
With the rise, the benchmark index climbed back above the key psychological level of 2,600 points.
Although the market opened on a weaker note, slipping briefly into the red, it soon moved on a positive trajectory and hit an intra-day high of 2,611.47 points. The index later pared some of its gains but still managed to end the session 0.46 percent higher.
A total of 149 scrips recorded gains during the session, while 90 declined and 12 remained unchanged. Union Hydropower topped the turnover chart, with shares worth Rs 386.15 million traded. Himalayan Distillery and Radhi Bidyut Company followed with turnovers of Rs 327.03 million and Rs 315.72 million, respectively.
Despite the benchmark’s gain, overall market turnover dropped to Rs 4.68 billion, with 9.21 million units traded through 42,879 transactions.
Among the sectoral indices, 11 closed in positive territory while two ended lower. The Finance sub-index posted the sharpest gain of 3.41%. Investment and Manufacturing & Processing sub-indices finished 0.67% and 0.63% higher, respectively.
