Former UML lawmaker Bhattachan arrested

KATHMANDU: Former CPN-UML lawmaker Devi Prasad Bhattachan has been arrested on fraud charges.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested Bhattachan from Lalitpur on Tuesday.

Bhattachan, who is also the chairperson of Prabhu Group, had previously faced complaints but had managed to evade arrest.

Kusum Lama, chairperson of Prabhu Management, had filed a case against Bhattachan, accusing him of defrauding Rs 980 million.

During the 2022 general elections, the CPN-UML had nominated Bhattachan under the proportional representation system from the indigenous nationalities quota.
