KATHMANDU: The USA defeated the UAE by four wickets in the ICC World Cricket League 2 tri-series at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
This was the second win for the US in as many games, following a 106-run victory over Nepal in the tri-series opener on Sunday.
Batting first after losing the toss, the UAE posted 211 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Although the hosts lost both openers with just four runs on the board, their middle order steadied the innings and took the score past 200, which at one point looked unlikely. Harshit Kaushik led the scoring with 53 off 54 balls, while Rahul Chopra (36), Muhammad Shahzad (34), Shoaib Khan (27) and Muhammad Waseem (21) made useful contributions.
For the US, Saurabh Netravalkar claimed three wickets, Jasdeep Singh and Shubham Ranjane took two apiece, and Rushil Ugarkar added one.
The chase of 212 was far from smooth for the US. Openers Smit Patel (0) and Andries Gous (1), along with Saiteja Mukkamalla (8), fell early. Captain Monank Patel anchored the innings with a composed 50 from 67 balls before Milind Kumar top-scored with a steady 71 off 81 deliveries. Ranjane (46 not out) and Harmeet Singh (15 not out) guided the team home.
Junaid Siddique claimed three wickets for the hosts, while Simranjeet Singh picked up two, and Haider Ali took one.
The UAE will face Nepal in the next match of the tri-series on Thursday.
