KATHMANDU: As many as 14 fire incidents were reported across the country on Friday, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). The authority said the nationwide rise in fire cases has been largely attributed to carelessness and a lack of awareness and preparedness.

According to the NDRRMA, the fire incidents occurred in Panchthar, Sunsari, Saptari, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Rautahat, Dolakha, Lalitpur, Nawalpur (East), Rolpa, Gulmi, Rukum (West), Kanchanpur and Darchula. Most of the incidents were reportedly caused by negligence.

Similarly, 13 fire incidents were recorded on Thursday in Jhapa, Ilam, Sunsari, Sankhuwasabha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Kailali, Kalikot and Parsa, with Palpa alone reporting three. A day earlier, as many as 17 fire incidents had occurred.

The three-day data provided by the authority shows that fire incidents have been the most frequent type of disaster recently. Following the end of the monsoon and the onset of dry weather conditions, the number of fire-related incidents has increased across the country. The authority has urged the public to exercise extra caution to prevent such disasters.
