Toshima criticizes decision to expand RSP secretariat

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Dr Tosima Karki has expressed dissatisfaction over the party’s recent decision-making process.

In a social media post on Sunday, Dr. Karki said the ongoing reformation agenda within the party should focus on restructuring the executive leadership and improving its working style.

According to her, although the party has called an extended meeting within two weeks to decide on the general convention, the recent decision to expand the party secretariat beforehand goes against the spirit of reform. “The agenda of reformation had already been raised in the party, and the extended meeting was scheduled for that very purpose. But instead of waiting for that meeting to decide on the general convention, the secretariat was expanded,” she wrote.

Dr Karki clarified that the reform being sought was not symbolic but aimed at changing and reorganizing the executive leadership. She emphasized the need for greater democratic practice within the party, improvement in work culture, and fostering a sense of inclusion at all organizational levels. “We need to be more democratic and correct our working style,” she stated.

Stating that the upcoming extended meeting ensure broad participation and voting rights within the organization, she added, “If members from across the country are brought to Chitwan—spending time, money and effort—but are not given the right to make decisions, the meeting will lose its purpose.”
