KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who was manhandled during the Gen Z protest on September 9, has made his first public appearance in 35 days.
He reached NC’s central office in Sanepa on Tuesday afternoon to attend the party’s Central Working Committee meeting.
Protesters had entered Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha and attacked the octogenarian leader and his spouse, then foreign minister Arzu Rana Deuba. They also vandalized the residence and set parts of the property on fire.
The couple was rescued by security personnel and admitted to the Nepal Army Hospital and discharged from the hospital after a few days of treatment.
Deuba delivered his written statement in the meeting and named Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka as the Acting President of the party.
