Maoist Center calls for timely elections to uphold constitution, stability

KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Center) has concluded that elections must be held on the scheduled date to ensure the continuity of the constitution and the stability of the political system.

After the meeting of the Secretariat of the General Convention Organizing Committee of the party on Monday, Maoist Center Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota said his party has been holding discussions with other political parties to make the upcoming elections successful.

“The Maoist Center is playing a leading role in creating a positive environment for elections to be held on the announced date. Talks with other parties are progressing in a positive environment,” he added. Sapkota claimed that there is now a near consensus among major political parties regarding the need to go to elections.

“The only way to safeguard the constitution and preserve the current system is by holding elections,” he said. “The party has placed the election at the top of its priorities.” Sapkota further said that the party has been reviewing its own weaknesses and shortcomings. “We have also been advising other parties to conduct similar reviews,” he added.

Sapkota informed that the meeting also discussed the loss of lives and property caused by floods and landslides across the country. The meeting called for collective efforts in reconstruction and recovery.

According to Sapkota, party chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal briefed the meeting on expanding the Socialist Front and on ongoing discussions regarding party unification. He added that the date for the party’s special general convention would be decided after the expansion of the organizing committee.
