Gold price goes up Rs 25,000 per tola in a month

KATHMANDU: The price of gold in the domestic market surged to an all-time high of Rs 223,000 per tola (11.664 grams) on Tuesday, according to the Federation of Nepalese Gold and Silver Dealers’ Associations (Fenegosida). With this, gold became dearer by more than Rs 25,000 in just a month.

The yellow metal has seen a sharp rise in September, gaining Rs 7,000 per tola in just five days. On September 19, gold was traded at Rs 216,000 per tola, while on September 14 it stood at Rs 215,100. Earlier this month, the price hovered at Rs 214,700 per tola on September 9 and Rs 207,900  per tola on September 4.

Compared with last month, the rally has been even steeper. Gold was priced at Rs 200,600 per tola on August 29 and Rs 197,500 on August 24.

Since Nepal meets all its gold demand, any change in the price of the yellow metal in the international market is reflected in the domestic market. According to Reuters news agency, gold prices climbed to a fresh record high in the international market on Tuesday, aided by safe haven flows amid geopolitical uncertainty and expectations of further Federal Reserve rate cuts. Spot gold rose 0.8% to $3,777.80 per ounce on Tuesday, after hitting a fresh record high of $3,790.82 earlier in the session.

Traders say the upward trend is largely driven by strong global prices, fueled by safe-haven demand for gold amid international economic uncertainties. Domestic factors, including festive-season demand ahead of Dashain, have further reinforced the rally.
